Abstract. Discovered by M.G.Krein analogy between polynomials orthogonal on the
unit circle and generalized eigenfunctions of certain differential
systems is used to obtain some new results in spectral analysis
of Sturm-Liouville operators. Some properties of Dirac-type
systems are studied.
