Stability of Ginzburg-Landau Vortices

ABSTRACT.  We consider the question of stability of time-independent vortex 
solutions of two evolution equations of Ginzburg-Landau type:
the nonlinear heat equation, and the nonlinear Schrodinger
equation. For the heat equation, we show that n-vortex
solutions are stable under real, radially symmetric,
but not necessarily small perturbations. 
For the Schr\"odinger equation, we set up basic equations for  
analysis of asymptotic stability.
