C*-Algebras and Topological Dynamics in Spectral Analysis

ABSTRACT.  We present some developments and applications of a recent algebraical 
approach to certain problems in spectral theory. Our principal topic 
is to determine in a natural way subsets of the essential spectrum of 
certain self-adjoint operators. We point out localization results for 
energies situated in the complements of these subsets.
